Dave Bell - Elder

Dave Bell, and his wife Leah, have been a part of Greene Community Church since 2006. He has served as elder since 2013, and has played an important role in leadership and discipleship since then. Dave is an electrician by trade and, along with his wife, operate a Christmas tree farm in the community.

Andy Shaner - Deacon

Andy Shaner, his wife Leigh Ann, and their four children originally heard about Greene Community Church through an outreach years ago. Over the years, Andy served as AV Ministry Leader before becoming a deacon. Through his role as deacon, Andy actively serves the body at Greene Community Church as well as in the local community.

History

Greene Community Church began as a church plant of the Southern Baptist Convention in the summer of 2003. Pastor David Crowe, his wife Kellie, and their two sons, Taylor and Samuel, relocated from Virginia to the Cedar Ridge apartment complex in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania. After initially reaching out to the residents of the complex, several rooms were rented each Sunday morning at the Comfort Inn in Waynesburg.

Slowly but steadily, more people began attending the contemporary Bible preaching services, where Pastor David led the music and his wife taught Sunday school. Several Waynesburg University students were recruited to assist in Children's Ministry. Small, informal Bible studies, held at the homes of church attendees, as well as the Crowe household, were instrumental in the growth of GCC.

With much prayer and God's leading, it was agreed upon to search for a larger space. This space happened to be at the former Employment Agency, at 653 East High Street, right in the heart of Waynesburg. So, in 2005, much hard work was dedicated to cleaning and improving the left side of the building. Our sanctuary and a couple classrooms developed in this area. About a year later, the right side was also rented and became the multi-purpose area, where Sunday afternoon lunches, Bible studies, and special events take place.

Mission teams from South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Virginia have worked alongside GCC throughout the years to conduct and minister to the county in ways such as Creative Arts, Dinosaur Adventure, and I Spy children's camps. With God's blessing, these have been a great success, proclaiming God's love to believers and unbelievers. We at GCC recognize and acknowledge that only God is to be glorified in building His Church. We are empty vessels with willing hearts for advancing His Kingdom.

Affiliations

Greene Community Church is a member of the Southern Baptist Convention. While the name indicates a geographic region, Southern Baptists are far from "southern." Instead, you'll find SBC congregations in 153 nations of the world. Today, there are more than 16 million SBC members who worship in more than 42,000 churches in the United States.

The Trinity

God the Father

God the Son

The Church

Communion

A symbolic memorial to the death, burial and resurrection of The Lord Jesus Christ. The bread is symbolic of his Body and the wine is symbolic of His shed blood (Luke 22:14-2014 And when the hour came, he reclined at table, and the apostles with him. 15 And he said to them, “I have earnestly desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer. 16 For I tell you I will not eat it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God.” 17 And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he said, “Take this, and divide it among yourselves. 18 For I tell you that from now on I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.” 19 And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” 20 And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood. (ESV) ).

Baptism

Christian baptism is the immersion of a Believer in water as an act of complete obedience to faith in the crucified, buried and risen Lord Jesus Christ (Mark 1:9-119 In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 And when he came up out of the water, immediately he saw the heavens being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” (ESV) ). It is a prerequisite for the privileges of membership (not salvation) and the Lord's Supper (Communion).

Salvation

Biblical salvation is the grace of God granted to only those who have a regenerate heart (John 3:88 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.” (ESV) ), repent of their sins, believe in, trust in and confess The Lord Jesus Christ as Savior (Ephesians 2:8-108 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (ESV) ; Romans 10:8-138 But what does it say? “The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart” (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); 9 because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved. 11 For the Scripture says, “Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.” 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him. 13 For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (ESV) ). It is the Gift of God's Gracious Nature - given only because of God's Loving and Merciful Nature toward the sinner - [it is not by any merit nor work of a person's will or goodness] (John 3:1616 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (ESV) ; Romans 5:88 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (ESV) ). The Lord Jesus Christ shed His blood (by being whipped, punched, hair plucked out, thorns impressed in His head, crucified, and side pierced) and rose again from the dead on the third day (1st Peter 1:13, 18-2113 Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 18 knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. 20 He was foreknown before the foundation of the world but was made manifest in the last times for the sake of you 21 who through him are believers in God, who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God. Salvation is only found, by grace through faith, in The Lord Jesus Christ (Acts 4:1212 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (ESV) ; John 14:66 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (ESV) ). There are four Biblical aspects of God's salvation:

1. Regeneration - Granted by God, it is the quickening of a spiritually dead man's heart and mind, brought about by the Holy Spirit, through conviction of sin, whereby the man repents, believes, and confesses faith and trust in The Lord Jesus Christ. (John 3:88 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. 2. Justification - Granted by God, it is the full pardon (acquittal) through God's Righteousness of the sinner who comes to The Lord Jesus Christ in faith. God's justification brings the Believer into a righteous relationship of peace and favor with Him. (Romans 3:20-31To Long To Display - Click Reference For Link; Acts 13:36-4036 For David, after he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, fell asleep and was laid with his fathers and saw corruption, 37 but he whom God raised up did not see corruption. 38 Let it be known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, 39 and by him everyone who believes is freed from everything from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses. 40 Beware, therefore, lest what is said in the Prophets should come about: (ESV) ; Romans 5:15:1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 3. Sanctificaiton - Granted by God, it is the experience by which God sets a Believer apart to His wonderful purposes and enables the Believer by the Holy Spirit to progress, throughout the Believer's life, toward moral and spiritual maturity. (1st Corinthians 6:1111 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. (ESV) ; 2nd Peter 3:17-1817 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, take care that you are not carried away with the error of lawless people and lose your own stability. 18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen. (ESV) ; Ephesians 4:11-1611 And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, 12 to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ, 14 so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes. 15 Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love. End Times

God, in His Own predetermined time and His Own predetermined way, will bring the world to an appropriate end (Acts 1:77 He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority. According to God, as promised, The Lord Jesus Christ will return personally and visibly in glory to the earth (Acts 1:9-119 And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. 10 And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, 11 and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.” (ESV) ); the dead will be raised (1st Thessalonians 4:13-18) and all men (who have ever lived) will be judged by the Righteousness of Christ (2nd Timothy 4:14:1 I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: (ESV) ; Revelation 1:1818 and the living one. The sufficiency of Scripture references the fact that the Bible is the final authority in all matters of faith and practice. Therefore, we continue to make every effort to structure our church according to biblical mandates. (Deuteronomy 4:22 You shall not add to the word that I command you, nor take from it, that you may keep the commandments of the Lord your God that I command you. (ESV) ; Deuteronomy 12:3232  “Everything that I command you, you shall be careful to do. You shall not add to it or take from it. A Biblical View of Conversion

Our goal is not that of coercing as many people as possible to "pray a prayer". We desire true conversion. We seek to proclaim and explain the gospel, taking the time to review Scripture, allowing the Word of God to work in the hearts of those He is calling. (Romans 3:2323 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (ESV) ; Romans 5:88 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. A Biblical Worldview

Christianity is not a religion. Instead, it is our entire worldview. We are to think biblically concerning every aspect of life, from holding fast to a literal 6-day creation view of "In the beginning" to issues such as protecting the unborn child and a view of life beginning at conception. We believe we must approach the world and our interactions from a distinctively biblical perspective. Christ Exalting Worship

While the New Testament has very little to say about worship styles, the totality of Scripture is very clear that we are to engage in Christ-exalting worship through praying, teaching, Scripture reading, singing, giving, honoring and obeying God. A Biblical Community

The Church is not a building. Instead, it is a Body, or a community of covenanting believers. As such, we are to live in active, loving, continual, watchful, protective fellowship with one another. Mere participation in an occasional worship service does not result in us being a biblical community of believers, bound together in Christ Jesus. What a joy it is! (Matthew 18:15-1815 “If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. 16 But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. 17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. 18 Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Biblical Manhood & Womanhood

We believe that within Scripture, God has clearly defined the roles of men and the roles of women, both within the home and the church. While these roles are questioned within our culture today, God has not changed. (1st Corinthians 16:13-1413 Be watchful, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. 14 Let all that you do be done in love. (ESV) ; 1st Kings 2:1-32:1 When David's time to die drew near, he commanded Solomon his son, saying, 2 “I am about to go the way of all the earth. The Blessing of Children

We believe and teach that children are a blessing from the Lord. God has called us to be "fruitful and multiply." We are saddened by our culture’s view of children as financial burdens. Instead, we rejoice with those who receive children in abundance and pray with those whose desire is for the blessing of children and the fruit of the womb. (Psalms 127:3-53 Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. 4 Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one's youth. 5 Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate. (ESV) ; Psalms 128128:1 Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways! 2 You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be blessed, and it shall be well with you. 3 Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table. 4 Behold, thus shall the man be blessed who fears the Lord. 5 The Lord bless you from Zion! Family Discipleship

While the church is called to make disciples, it is clear that God has designed the family as the primary discipling agent. Children are entrusted to parents for their spiritual nurture. As a Body, we are committed to coming alongside parents, encouraging them as they teach and admonish their children, bringing them up in the Lord, while also recognizing that family situations vary and that one or both of the parents might not be in a place to be their childrens' spiritual nurturers. (Genesis 12:88 From there he moved to the hill country on the east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. And there he built an altar to the Lord and called upon the name of the Lord.
